योग प्रवृत्ति कषाय उदय, लेश्या देती ज्ञान।
कषाय-योग का काम है, चतुष्कर्म बंध जान॥२.३१.२.५३२॥

 

कषाय के उदय से अनुरंजित  मन–वचन–काय की योग प्रवृत्ति को लेश्या कहते है। इन दोनों अर्थात कषाय और योग का कार्य है चार प्रकार का कर्म बंध। कषाय से कर्मों के स्थित और अनुभाग बन्ध होते है और योग से प्रकृति और प्रदेश बन्ध।

 

Occurrence of soul-colouring as a result of activities (of mind, speech and body) due to the rise of passions is called Lesya. The twin effects of activity and passions is to bring about bondage of four kinds of Karma. (532)

Note: At the time of bondage of karmas to the soul, four characteristics of

karmas are decided. They are:

1) Prakriti (nature).

2) Pradesh (quantity).

3) Sthiti (duration).

4) Anubhag (intensity).

The nature and quantity of karmas depend on the vigor of the activities,

while the duration and intensity of karmas depend upon the intensity of

the desires behind the activities.

 

किण्हा णीला काऊ, तेऊ पम्मा य सुक्क-लेस्सा य।
लेस्साणं णिद्देसा, छचचेव हवंति णियमेण।।३।।SSu

 

काली नील कबूतरी, पीली पद्म सफ़ेद।
छह तरह की लेश्या, रंगों में है  भेद॥२.३१.३.५३३॥

 

लेश्याऐं छह प्रकार की है – कृष्णलेश्या, नील, कापोत (कबूतरी), पीली, पद्म और शुक्ल।

 

The thought colours (leshyas) are of six kinds :
1. Black; 2. Blue; 3. Gray; 4. Yellow; 5. Pink; and 6. White. (533)
