निर्जरा Shedding of Karma

– निर्जरा के भय Fear of Shedding
जहा महातलायस्स, सन्न्रुद्धे जलागमे।
उस्सिंचणाए तवणाए, कमेण सोसणा भवे।।२२।।

हो जैसे तालाब बड़ा, करे बंद जल द्वार।
ताप सूर्य का ज्यूँ बढ़े, पानी का संहार॥३.३४.२२.६०९॥
एवं तु संजयस्सावि, पावकम्मनिरासवे।
भवकोडीसंचियं कम्मं, तक्सा निज्जरिज्जइ।।२३।।SSu
कर्म बंधन संयम से,बंद हो आस्रव द्वार।
नष्ट हो संचित कर्म सभी, तप निर्जरा अपार॥३.३४.२३.६१०॥
जैसे किसी बड़े तालाब का जल, जल के मार्ग को बन्द करने से, पहले के जल को उलीचने से तथा सूर्य के ताप से क्रमश: सूख जाता है वैसे ही संयमी का करोड़ों भवों से संचित कर्म, पाप कर्म के प्रवेश मार्ग को रोकने से तथा तप से निर्जरा को प्राप्त होता है।
Just as the water of a large tank gradually evaporates (disappears) and the tank dried up by closing all the inlets thereafter by throwing of the remaining water; and by the scorching heat of sun; similarly, the past accumulated karmas (i.e. karmas earned during the past millions of lives) of an abstains person get destroyed (and eradicated) by closing the inlets of vicious karmas (papa-karmas) and by austerities that lead to the shedding of karmas.
