नि:शल्यो व्रती॥१८॥TS
काँटा है मिथ्यात्व भी, माया और निदान।
वो जीव नहीं कर सके, व्रत आदि का पान॥७.१८.२५४॥
जो शल्य रहित हो उसे व्रती कहते है। शल्य तीन कहे गये है। मिथ्यात्व, माया और निदान।
The votary is free from stings. There are 3 stings. Wrong belief, deceiving, anxiety for fulfilling desires (nidaan).
णिस्सल्लस्सेव पुणो, महव्वदाइं हवंति सव्वाइं।
वदमुवहम्मदि तीहिं दु, णिदाणमिच्छत्तमायाहिं।।२।।SSu
तीन शूल व्रत घात करे, मिथ्या माया निदान।
शूल हटे महाव्रत रहे, जिन का धरम विधान ॥२.२५.२.३६५॥
निदान (पाने की इच्छा), मिथ्यात्व (ग़लत धारणा) और माया, इन तीन कारणों से ही व्रत निष्फल होते है। इन तीन शूलों को निकालने से ही महाव्रत का पालन होगा।
A monk, who is free from the thorns of character (salya) really observes (five) great vows; the vows become ineffective due to three thorns of character, i. e., desire for worldly return for one’s good acts, wrong faith and deceit. (365)
